1993 PGS started, with cooperation with PRCS, an outreach program. The main purpose was to provide rehabilitation and habilitation for children and adults with disabilities and impairments, who had problems to go to the clinic. In the spring of 1997 a survey to detect disabled people was done by STR and PRCS with help of local volunteers who are working with different social organizations in Beddawi and Nahr El Barred camp. We then detected around 1000 disabled people in the two camps but with time the numbers have increased. After the survey we started to implement the CBR program in the both camps. A Consortium was founded consisting of different organizations that work for Palestinian disabled in the north of Lebanon. Then a Project Manager and Local Supervisors educated in CBR started to work with the disabled children and their families, mainly supporting and training in activities for daily living (ADL). They use the WHO teaching manuals. CBR has been linked together with physiotherapy department but now it had been more referral and consulting to the CBR program. |
